But never doubt I love.”

Significance of the Life We Lead

"It always seems impossible until it's done.

There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.

For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb.

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.

May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.

A winner is a dreamer who never gives up.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison.

And if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love.

Sometimes, it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.

Poverty is not an accident. Like slavery and apartheid, it is man-made and can be removed by the actions of human beings.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to helping others without expecting anything in return.

What counts is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.

There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you have altered.

When a man is denied the right to live the life he believes in, he has no choice but to become an outlaw.

Part of being optimistic is keeping one’s head pointed toward the sun, one’s feet moving forward.

I never lose. I either win or learn.

No single person can liberate a country. You can only liberate a country if you act as a collective.

Action without vision is only passing time, vision without action is merely day dreaming, but vision with action can change the world.

If you want the cooperation of humans around you, you must make them feel they are important, and you do that by being genuine and humble.

Courageous people do not fear forgiving, for the sake of peace.

When people are determined they can overcome anything.

Forget the past.

We must use time wisely and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right.

People respond in accordance to how you treat them.

We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference.”

Dive For Them

"The Kon-Tiki expedition opened my eyes to what the ocean really is. It is a conveyor and not an isolator. The ocean has been man's highway from the days he built the first buoyant ships, long before he tamed the horse, invented wheels and cut road through the virgin jungles."

"Pearls rarely turn up in oysters served to you on a plate, you have to dive for them."

"Borders? I have never seen one, but I have heard they exist in the minds of some people."

All Along

I started looking for you, not knowing
how blind that was.
Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere,
they’re in each other all along."

Only Admire It

"Big girls need big diamonds.

I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened, and I'm not afraid to look behind them.

When people say, 'She's got everything', I've got one answer - I haven't had tomorrow.

I adore wearing gems, but not because they are mine. You can't possess radiance, you can only admire it.

It is strange that the years teach us patience; that the shorter our time, the greater our capacity for waiting.

His greatest legacy to me was the gift of love. Not only how to give, but how to receive with love."

Urgentemente

"Urgentemente
É urgente o amor
É urgente um barco no mar

É urgente destruir certas palavras,
ódio, solidão e crueldade,
alguns lamentos, muitas espadas.

É urgente inventar alegria,
multiplicar os beijos, as searas,
é urgente descobrir rosas e rios
e manhãs claras.

Cai o silêncio nos ombros e a luz
impura, até doer.
É urgente o amor, é urgente
permanecer."

Eugénio de Andrade

Silence

"We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls."
Madre Teresa

The Aim of Life

“The aim of life is self-development. To realise one's nature perfectly-that is what each of us is here for. People are afraid of themselves, nowadays. They have forgotten the highest of all duties, the duty that one owes to one's self. Of course they are charitable. They feed the hungry, and clothe the beggar. But their own souls starve, and are naked.”

Don't Waste Time

"Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.

Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.

Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.

If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you'll never get it done.

If you love life, don't waste time, for time is what life is made up of.

A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a fool can learn from a wise answer.

Don't think, feel....it is like a finger pointing a way to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory!

I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.

Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.

To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities.

The more we value things, the less we value ourselves.

Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man. But sooner or later the man who wins, is the man who thinks he can.

‎The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.

The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering.

You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend."

Unite As One

"To establish and maintain a good sexual relationship, the energies of both partners must be on the same level. In Front of Our Eyes

“All of us, whether or not we are warriors, have a cubic centimeter of chance that pops out in front of our eyes from time to time. The difference between an average man and a warrior is that the warrior is aware of this, and one of his tasks is to be alert, deliberately waiting, so that when his cubic centimeter pops out he has the necessary speed, the prowess, to pick it up.”

Next Level of Evolution

"So why did you get married if you didn't want kids?" Huh? Love... Companionship, I blurted. His question startled me, rendering me uncharacteristically short of words... He cocked his head and waited for more, his curiosity genuine. In that moment, I recognised just how strange I must have seemed to him. Here was a person who could not imagine life without kids trying to understand a person who could not imagine a life with kids."

"Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself."

"All organisms on this planet use vibration (aka energy) as a primary means of communication. I learned the hard way that ignoring this primary means of communication is a huge mistake, one we humans make all the time. Essentially, we buy the Brooklyn Bridge even though on some level we know we're being had. We override our feelings when our rational minds focus on words, especially when they're spoken by silver-tongued swindlers (or lovers)."

"What quantum physics teaches us is that everything we thought was physical is not physical. Instead, everything in this Universe is made out of immaterial energy, and everything radiates energy."

"So when you "entangle" (quantum physics terminology) with someone else's energy, you want the interference to be constructive (good vibes) not destructive (bad vibes). You want the interaction to increase your energy, not deplete it. Now that you understand the science behind a phenomenon that you've no doubt already noticed - that some people energise you and some people exhaust you - I hope you'll make it a practice to surround yourself with people who enhance your energy.
Incidentally, as the Chinese figured out long before quantum physicists discovered the influence of the nonmaterial nature of the Universe, you can surround yourself with "physical" objects that enhance your energy as well. Physical objects vibrate just as you do. Feng shui, which originated in Chinese astronomy, balances the physical objects around you in a way that conforms to your energy, thus enhancing qi (energy)."

"Knowledge is power and with this knowledge you are empowered to create the life and the relationships of your choosing from now on."

"Live and enjoy the fact that you are a creator, not a victim of your life. You can have the kinds of relationships you want by using your brain as a tuning fork that resonates with what you want to create and avoids thinking about what you don't want to bring into your life. You are manifesting your life. You have the freedom to create what you want to create."

"When you add consciousness, you become the driver of the machine. You are no longer predictable. Even astrologers recognise that when individuals become conscious, astrology isn't as accurate because people become far less predictable. Instead of automatically reacting to the energetic field around us that includes the tides and the pull of planets, we can modify our own vibrations and our responses to the vibrations of others."

"We create our lives with our beliefs and we broadcast those beliefs into the energetic environment around us. We are creating our relationships, and with that knowledge, we have the freedom to create whatever kinds of relationships we want!"

"Be conscious of what you ask for because you are going to get it."

"And one things I've learned in my life is that you can't change another person: unless someone asks for your help, your efforts are likely doomed."

"It is true that when people spinning in balance like a noble gas have the opportunity to jump into another dysfunctional relationship, they do not seize it. Wobbly atoms around them can act as crazy as they want, but noble gases are not drawn in; instead, they keep spinning happily on their own. As I tell my audiences, "noble gases can love the jerk, but they are not attached to the jerk".

"An excimer, short for "excited dimer", is a special bonding association between two atoms that would not be bound together in their normal state. When a noble gas atom is hit by a photon of light, its "normal" state is profoundly altered. The atom absorbs the photon's energy and begins to vibrate faster because of its higher level of energy. Simply, an "enlightened" noble gas atom becomes "excited". A noble gas atom in an excited state will seek bonding, partnership with another noble gas atom so it can share that excitement!"

"If we are all to live well with the Earth and survive this century, we have to understand that to strive for human rights alone is not enough. We have to understand that we and all living things from bacteria to trees, from amoeba to whales are all part of this great living Earth system. Most important, we have to act personally and not expect others to do our duty... We tend far too much to seek scapegoats, people to blame for the environmental troubles, whereas it is us all. We determine everything we do and we've got to keep that in mind."

"Unless we all experience that we are all the same consciousness, we're going to treat each other as if you don't matter."

"I have devoted a great deal of study to the peculiar relationship between violence and pleasure. I am now convinced that the deprivation of physical sensory pleasure is the principal root cause of violence."

"I sit here looking at the crises facing humanity and I'm excited because I believe they're a sign that we're on our way to the next level of evolution, a new belief system that will shape a civilisation based on harmony and self-empowerment."

The Art of War

"To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.

Invincibility lies in the defense, the possibility of victory in the attack.

A whole army may be robbed of its spirit; a commander-in-chief may be robbed of his presence of mind.

Now a soldier's spirit is keenest in the morning; by noonday it has begun to flag; in the evening, his mind is bent only on returning to camp.

A clever general, therefore, avoids an army when its spirit is keen, but attacks it when it is sluggish and inclined to return. This is the art of studying the moods.

There are five dangerous faults which may affect a general:
1 Recklessness, which leads to destruction;
2 Cowardice, which leads to capture;
3 A hasty temper, which can be provoked by insults;
4 A delicacy of honor which is sensitive to shame;
5 Over-solicitude for his men, which exposes him to worry and trouble.

These are the five besetting sins of a general, ruinous to the conduct of war.

All armies prefer high ground to low and sunny places to dark.

When envoys are sent with compliments in their mouths, it is a sign that the enemy wishes for a truce.

Soldiers must be treated in the first instance with humanity, but kept under control by means of iron discipline. This is a certain road to victory.

When the position is such that neither side will gain by making the first move, it is called temporising ground.

In a position of this sort, even though the enemy should offer us an attractive bait, it will be advisable not to stir forth, but rather to retreat, thus enticing the enemy in his turn, when part of his army has come out, we may deliver our attack with advantage.

Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look upon them as your own beloved sons and they will stand by you even into death.

The skilful tactician may be likened to the shuai-jan. Now the she-jan is a snake that is found in the Chung Mountains. Strike at its head and you will be attacked by its tail; strike at its tail and you will be attacked by its head; strike at its middle and you will be attacked by head and tail both.

It is only the enlightened ruler and the wise general who will use the highest intelligence of the army for purposes of spying and thereby they achieve great results. Spies are a most important element in water, because on them depends an army's ability to move."

The Act As If Principle

"Your values are only expressed in your actions!

Living in truth means that you do not pretend or practice self-delusion. You face life, your relationships and your circumstances exactly as they are, not as you wish they would be. Living in truth means that you never stay in a situation that makes you unhappy or which you feel for any reason is wrong for you.
Living in truth means that you set peace of mind as your highest goal and as your core organising principle. You never compromise your peace of mind for anyone or anything else.

I have a vision of something greater or better than my current circumstances. Personal greatness means having a sense of destiny and a conviction that my thoughts and imagination are the only real limits to my possibilities!"

Dealing Directly with the Energy Within

"Many people are tricked by their own Qi in the same way that I was. One of my teachers, perhaps the best I have met at Tao: Fang Zhong Shu, explained that when he engages in sexual contact or intercourse with a woman, he is not looking at their mind or their bodies, he is "dealing directly with the yin energy within them" which he "worships" as a "goddess". That is to say, from my perspective, that he is cognisant and present in the reality of what is going on, the subtle "transaction" behind the scenes, which our psyches delude us into believing is about something else. That is not to say that you cannot or do not love a person who you are in a committed relationship with. Indeed, you very well might! But that is something very different than what happens when you are first attracted to a woman. You can choose to believe this or not, the reality doesn't change based upon what you convince yourself of. True love of an individual is something that takes time and cultivation, just as true power takes many decades of cultivation."

To Be Authentic

"It's easier to hold your principles 100% of the time than 98%.

An individual crab is extremely effective at escaping almost any trap. However, a very simple trap can be used to catch large groups of crab.
Here's how it works: inside of each open-top trap sits a pile of crab feed. The first crab to happen upon the feed enters and enjoys the spoils. The second crab sees his feasting colleague and joins him for the partaking. The third and fourth crab follow suit. Soon, dozens and dozens of crabs have entered the trap and lingered, even after all the food is gone.
Here's the catch: if one crab chooses to exit the cage and looks for food elsewhere, it is challenged by its mates. While trying to crawl out of the trap, the other crabs will pull it back down. If this brave fellow persists, the others will break off its claws. If it persists further, the group will kill it.
Sadly, humans are not too different. We all have extreme egos. We don't like seeing others succeed beyond our own perceived abilities. We prefer when other fail or, at least, fall behind us in the peloton of society. We've created collective barriers in our language, actions and even thoughts which maintain the status quo.
Rejection and ridicule are real barriers. To be authentic is to be vulnerable. Visions and goals are regularly shot down and considered absurd."

It's How Much of You is Doing It

"Things are going to happen to you and you're going to feel the tendency to close. But you have the choice to either go with it or let it go. Your mind will tell you that it's not reasonable to stay open when these things happen. But you have limited time left in your life, and what's really not reasonable is to not enjoy life.
If you have trouble remembering that, then meditate. Meditation strengthens your center of consciousness so that you are always aware enough to not allow your heart to close. You remain open by simply letting go and releasing the tendency to close. You just relax your heart when it starts to tighten."

"The beauty of deep truths is that you don't have to change your life; you just change how you live your life. It's not what you're doing, it's how much of you is doing it."

"Life itself is your career and your interaction with life is your most meaningful relationship. Everything else you're doing is just focusing on a tiny subset of life in the attempts to give life some meaning. What actually gives life meaning is the willingness to live it. It isn't any particular event; it's the willingness to experience life's events."

Novel Ways

"I think that physics is about escaping the prison of the received thoughts and searching for novel ways of thinking the world, about trying to clear a bit the misty lake of insubstantial dreams, which reflect reality like the lake reflects the mountains."

Carlo Rovelli

You've Already Arrived

"The eight patients we brought down to the Amazon were extremely sick, but on a soul level, the core problems they were working to resolve were nothing different from those we all experience in our own lives: attachment to our story, detachment to our true selves, stagnation due to stale patterns of thought that aren't serving us, fear of what others might think, fear of who we truly are inside, aversion to being vulnerable, lack of trust in ourselves and others, and ultimately, fear of the impermanence of it all - that is, fear of death.
The good news is that these seemingly toxic orientations toward our reality are 100 percent human. The tough news is that they must be acknowledged, understood, and dissolved in order for us to be healthy and benefit from the underlying wisdom they hold.
We can go to the ends of the earth to work on these things, but unless we as individuals are willing to show up right now and make the choice to be good to ourselves and do what we know is in alignment with our highest ideals, there isn't a shaman in the world who can save us."

"...cultivate patience. Slow down and relax into the experience you're currently having. The medicine will find you when it's ready."

"Stepping into the path itself is your solace. If you are on it, you've already arrived."

"This entire framework is centered on the shamanic principle that everything is medicine. It doesn't matter how painful, terrifying, or unpleasant the experience is - the master has learned how to transform these externalities into wisdom and fuel for greater spaciousness and compassion."

"- Dad, what is God?
- God is the big bright light that we all came from and that we're all going to.
- Like the moon?
- Kind of, but different. God is the light that we all have inside us that makes us who we are.
- You mean like love?
- Yes! God is love.
Hes stares into my eyes for a good minute saying nothing, transmitting something I'll never be able to categorize or give name to.
His eyes widen and he lets out a giggle that quickly morphs into a yawn.
- Good night, Dad. I'm going to leave my light on, ok?"

Be Your Truth

"Remember who you are doing this work for and why. You're willing to do whatever it takes to evolve and become the clear and loving person you were born into this world to be. This is why you are on this path - to dissolve the illusion, mend the wounds, and be your truth. Don't ever forget that.
When the fear comes, remember that you chose this. You are brave - that is your gift - but so is introspection, which is a cousin of self-doubt. Only you can choose which of these gifts you want to feed and when."

"The world is full of unknowns, but the one thing you can determine amid it all is how you are going to relate to yourself.
Never forget that you are your own strongest ally."

One insular Tahiti

“Consider them both, the sea and the land; and do you not find a strange analogy to something in yourself? For as this appalling ocean surrounds the verdant land, so in the soul of man there lies one insular Tahiti, full of peace and joy, but encompassed by all the horrors of the half known life. God keep thee! Push not off from that isle, thou canst never return!”

Surrender it the Only Way Forward

"Death is a change, a process that is necessary to life. Those who live in the Western world have demonised it out of fear and ignorance. They believe there is something to be afraid of after death. But what is it? What is God? He is life itself. So they stay away from death, and by doing so they also stay away from life."

"One thing we are guaranteed in this life is that there will be an end to our physical incarnation. Surrender is the only way forward. Surrender to the impermanence of this body, the impermanence of this emotion we are feeling right now, and the impermanence of any challenge we will ever face."

"We thought of life by analogy with a journey, a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at the end, and the thing was to get to that end, success or whatever it is, maybe heaven after you’re dead. The Only Possession

"You will see many things tonight, some pleasant and some not so pleasant. My advice to you is to assume a comfortable position, focus on your breathing, and try to be still.
Proceed through the next eight hours with an open heart, an open mind, like a child does, with no attachment whatsoever to what you witness, good or bad. You will most likely feel some disturbing emotions, visions, and thoughts; don't push them away. Let them pass by, simply observing without connecting any meaning.
You also may experience some beautiful sensations and imagery. The same principle applies to these. Do not reach for them or attach any significance. Simply notice. Envision yourself as a young child, sitting on the bank of a river, watching as leaves, branches, flowers, insects, and maybe some fish float and swim past you. The child simply watches, without injecting any ego or inner assessment into these passer-by.

Stay present with all that you experience. Focus on your breathing in times of difficulty, and try not to resist or cling to what you are about to see. You are everything. You are nothing. In this way, you can fully experience Grandma and go deeper with her."

(...)

"Put the strongest man or woman out in the cold for a few moments, and they become overwhelmed with an urge to tense up, as though that will somehow keep the cold out. But if you can do the unthinkable and let the sensation flow into and through you - observing it without emotion or fear, letting it pass - your reality is transformed."

As he speaks, the bitting cold that is assaulting me from every angle begins to transform into something different.
Information.
A natural self-scanning mechanism begins, showing me where I'm blocked, where I need to let go.

"Your body knows what it needs to maintain equilibrium. Don't let your mind get in the way."

(...)

Just keep focusing on your breath. The breath is the only possession that we need in life.

Patience and Prolonged Practice are the only keys

"...patience and practice are the keys to success and in the meantime you should focus on the journey, not the goal."

"Sexual potency is absolutely indispensable to spiritual progress, for sexual energy is the key for making all the breakthroughs on the spiritual path. A sexually weak or impotent person has no hope whatsoever of reaching the higher stages of spiritual development, because he can not muster sufficient energy. He or she must first fully restore sexual vitality through detoxification, proper nutrition, breathing and exercise, and well-regulated sexual intercourse, then use this enhanced sexual potency as bottomless battery of power to propel the spirit to ever-higher realms of experience on the wings of pure vitality."

"During love making, partners may intersect their Microcosmic Orbits by touching tongues, and if the man retains his semen, they may inter circulate their energies internally. This completes de circuit of "dual cultivation", causing Yin and Yang energies from man and woman to flow from one into the other and back again, with their linked genitals forming the lower terminals and linked tongues forming the upper terminals of their enhanced Microcosmic Orbits."

"Just try to keep the mind as light and empty as possible, while leisurely exploring the inner channels for energy, and above don't worry about "results". It requires many words to describe this, but in actual practice it all occurs spontaneously, nonverbally, and totally intuitively. Patience and prolonged practice are the only keys that can open the gates of the Microcosmic Orbit."

"Shut off the three external treasures of hearing, sight and speech in order to cultivate the three internal treasures of essence, energy and spirit."

"True cosmic wisdom transcends all arbitrary human knowledge with direct, overwhelming awareness of Tao. This awareness and wisdom can be achieved only by transmutting ordinary spirit into cosmic spirit, a long and difficult process in which the adept gradually peels away layer upon layer of illusion and sheds ordinary knowledge until he uncovers the precious pearl of original spirit."

"As a child grows older and becomes socialized, this shining pearl gets buried ever deeper in the mental morass of education, obscured by passion and desire, dulled by the dust of illusion, and drowned in the murky waters of discursive thought. It is our most precious possession and our most uniquely human attribute, but due to our infatuation with the external physical world and its passing phenomena, most people go through life without ever realizing its existence, though everyone gets a glimpse of it at the moment of death.
The purpose of meditation is to peel away the layers of illusion, passion and conceptual thought so that the precious pearl of original spirit can fill our consciousness with the lustrous light of cosmic insight. The precious pearl of original spirit is our one and only immortal link to the universe. It is the immortal spiritual seed that is released from the flesh at death and replanted in the womb when new life is conceived."

"The generative force changes into vitality when the body is still; vitality changes into spirit when the heart is unstirred; and spirit returns to nothingness because of immutable thought."

"The lower Elixir Field under the navel is where generative force (essence) is sublimated into vitality (energy); the middle Elixir Field in the solar plexus is where vitality is sublimated into spirit; and the upper Elixir Field in the brain is where the spirit is sublimated for its flight into space."

"Let the Void be your cauldron; let Nature be your furnace; for your primary ingredient, take stillness;   for your reagent, use quietude; for mercury, take your vital essence; for lead, use your vital energy; for water, use restraint; for fire, take meditation."

The True and Lasting Pleasure

"Rainbow Girl: It is generally assumed that a man gains great pleasure from ejaculation. But when he learns the Tao of Yin and Yang, he will ejaculate less and less. Will this not diminish his pleasure as well?
Peng Tze: Not at all! After ejaculating, a man feels tired, his ears buzz, his eyes get heavy, and he longs for sleep. He is thirsty and his limbs feel weak and stiff. By ejaculating, he enjoys a brief moment of sensation but suffers long hours of weariness as a result. This is no true pleasure! However if a man regulates his ejaculations to an absolute minimum and retains his semen, his body will grow strong, his mind will be clear and his vision and hearing will improve. While the man must occasionally deny himself the fleeting sensation of ejaculation, his love for his woman will greatly increase. He will feel as if he could never get enough of her. Is that not the true and lasting pleasure of sex?"

The Secrets of the Jade Bedroom

"...it is the hills and valleys of the woman that first attract the man's attention, while she is most curious about the size and firepower of his weapons. Who will advance and who will retreat? In bed as in war it is just as important to know yourself as it is to know your opponent."

"The Spirit of the Valley is
inexhaustible...
Draw on it as much as you will, it never runs
dry."

Earthly Manifestation of the Great Cosmic Dance

"The ceaseless intermingling of Heaven (Yang) and Earth (Yin) gives form to all things. The sexual union of male and female fives life to all things. The sexual union of male and female is thus regarded as the essential earthly manifestation of the great cosmic dance of Yin and Yang.

A commentary in the Book of Changes states, "The interaction of Yin and Yang is called Tao, and the resulting generative process is called change." Therefore the Way may be found in the interaction of Yin and Yang, in the union of opposites, not in one extreme or the other. Because of the ceaseless flux of Yin and Yang, the primary attribute of the Way is constant change, not stasis.

In the Book of Changes, the hexagram that symbolises sexual union is the 63rd, called "Completion". It consists of the trigram for "water/woman/clouds" placed over the trigram for "fire/man/light". This not only places Yin on top of Yang, it also suggests the image of cauldron water slowly coming to a boil over a fire. This is the quintessencial Taoist image for human sexual intercourse, concisely symbolising the essential differences between men and women in the sexual act. In order to last long enough to bring that cauldron of water to a rolling boil, the man must ration his fuel and carefully control his fire. If he burns his fuel too fast, his fire expires prematurely, leaving the water only lukewarm. But if he conserves his fire long enough to bring the water to a boil, then even the smallest of flame suffices to keep it hot for a long time."
